Santa Monica's Embassy Hotel, no relation to the Embassy Suites, is a historic Mediterranean-style villa with apartments and rooms in lush gardens near the pier and beach

The Embassy Hotel in Santa Monica, California is a historic gem, just a few minutes' walk from the beach and Santa Monica Pier. It is set in green gardens where hummingbirds fly, a fountain plays, palm trees reach to the sky, and colorful plants and flowers line the path to the front door. Located two blocks from Wilshire Boulevard and the famous Third Street Promenade, it's also convenient for nightlife and shopping.

Embassy Hotel's Historic Apartments

The Embassy Hotel Apartments were built in 1927 when the railway arrived in Santa Monica and brought people from Pasadena who came to spend their annual vacation by the ocean. The hotel offered daily, weekly, and monthly rates, and continues to do so today. Many of the apartments are self-catering, making it a good budget choice for those who may want to save a little money by cooking for themselves in the evening. With Santa Monica's Farmer's Market - one of the best in southern California - just a few blocks away, self-catering here is an attractive option.

Some rooms retain a sense of history with their decor and furniture, while still offering modern amenities such as private bathrooms, free wireless internet, daily maid service, in-room coffee, and other touches. Alongside these modern comforts guests may find wood beamed ceilings, brass beds, wonderful old-fashioned baths, and attractive stone balconies. In addition the lobby is a rather grand affair, reminiscent of a Spanish palace, leading through to more private gardens at the back of the hotel.

Accommodation Near Santa Monica Beach

The Embassy has a range of room options, with the Deluxe Rooms being the most inexpensive with rates starting at $169 per night on weekdays in low season. These Deluxe Rooms all have Queen-sized beds and private bathrooms. Then there are the smaller Studio Suites, with either Queen- or King-sized beds. For more space there are also One-Bedroom Suites and Two-Bedroom Suites.

According to the hotel manager many celebrity guests have stayed here, including Ronald Reagan in his movie star days, and Tom Cruise. Although the hotel is only a few blocks back from Santa Monica beach, it is also only 10-12 miles from the center of Los Angeles, and slightly further to Hollywood.

Embassy Hotel Near Third Street Promenade

In addition to the Pacific Coast Highway, the beach and Palisades Park, Santa Monica Pier with its famous carousel and games arcade is only about a mile away. Even closer is the Third Street Promenade, the center of nightlife and shopping in Santa Monica. Every Wednesday and Saturday, it's the scene of a wonderful Farmer's Market, brimming with fresh regional produce.

The Embassy is a non-smoking and pet-free hotel. There is no on-site parking. Guests park in the street for which a free parking permit is provided by the hotel. There is a short-stay drop-off zone outside the front entrance.
